Use an email alias to prevent exposing your online identity

When signing up for an online account or service, you normally need to provide your personal email address. In this way, you admittedly expose your online identity to spam, hacking attempts, and data breaches of all kinds. But there is an email protection solution to that. In all its simplicity, it protects your real email address by providing permanent email aliases.

Aliases are forwarded to your real email address

With SimpleLogin, you will get an open-source email protection service allowing you to register several online applications without revealing your real email address. All messages sent to the email alias of your choice will be directed to your actual inbox. And in case the alias email starts receiving too many spam messages, you can easily block the alias.

Protecting your online privacy through the best security practices

You can rest assured this email protection service follows all best practices to protect your online privacy. Your emails are solely stored in your mailbox. SimpleLogin does not save any emails on their servers. They make use of Transport Layer Security (TLS), a cryptographic protocol ensuring end-to-end security when communicating over computer networks. Furthermore, SPF, DKIM, and DMARC guarantee proper authentication of mail sending. PGP encryption and 2-factor authentication are also possible.

Anonymous sending of messages by a reverse alias

Using SimpleLogin, you are not limited to receiving email messages. You can also send them anonymously through your email alias. This is done by using reverse aliases. For each alias you want to send mail from, a reverse alias gets initiated. A message will first be sent from your personal email to the reverse alias and then from the alias to the receiver. While this might seem a bit confusing initially, the procedure is explained clearly on their website.

Email protection available via a web portal or browser extensions

There are 2 ways of using SipmpleLogin`s email protection: either access the service through their web portal or use a browser extension to generate aliases on the fly. SimpleLogin is available for Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android. Extensions are provided for Chrome, Firefox, and Safari.

Some limitations in the free plan

To sign up for this email protection service, you need to provide a primary email account. Then you can start adding email aliases. SimpleLogin offers a free and a premium plan. The free plan has some limitations. You can only add up to a maximum of 15 aliases; all are associated with your registered email account. Apart from that, there is no bandwidth restriction or cap on the number of messages you send or receive. To protect your personal email, the free plan should suffice.

The premium plan offers advanced features

The premium plan brings you some more advanced features. Unlimited aliases linked to several email mailboxes is one of them. You can also set a catch-all alias. Another extra of the paid subscription is that you can use your own custom domain to generate aliases. This means that you do not have to pay for any other email hosting solution.

The trial period has all the premium advantages

At the time of writing, when you apply for a free plan, you will have access to all the premium features for 7 days. All the aliases and mailboxes you configure during this trial period will continue to function even if you decide not to upgrade to premium. That makes the free plan quite generous.

An extra option to self-host your email protection solution

export aliases and data

There are two more components in the premium plan. One is the directory alias; this provides a means of creating an email alias whenever you need one without logging into the SimpleLogin portal. The other one is self-hosting. As such, you can host your alias management on your own server instead of depending on the SimpleLogin email protection cloud servers. And if you ever decide to leave this email protection service, you can export your data without any obstruction.

The SimpleLogin email protection service provides an excellent solution to safeguard your real email address.
